The Godfather
by Mario Puzo
I think I’ve seen The Godfather 1-3 about a hundred times. From what I understand, most people can’t watch them back to back every weekend for 3 monthes straight (according to my husband) but I can!
So when I found a hard cover edition of the book in a used book store for $2.00 (!!!!) naturally it had to come home with me. I started it right away and I was so surpised at how close the movies are to the book. Most of the dialog is word for word, and the story goes right along the same. The thing I really like was there’s all this additional story for characters that weren’t really showcased as much in the movies, for example Sonny’s girlfriend. She ends up having quite a story after he dies and Michael sends her to Vegas to work.
The only thing that was kind of distracting was, I couldn’t read it for myself, is I guess is the way to put it. Since dialog was pretty much word for word, everything I read was in my head as it was said in the movie. As I was reading along I couldn’t come up with my own imagry because it was so close all I could see was the movie.
But if you are a Godfather fan, this is definetely a good read!!!
